The festival Cau Ngu in Phan Thiet is the national intangible heritage

(Muinetourism.vn).- Recently, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry has just signed and issued the Decision to approve the traditional festival Cu Ngu at Van Thuy Tu temple (Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province) as a national  intangible heritage.

Van Thuy Tu temple is located on Ngu Ong street, Phan Thiet city with the traditional fishermen worship. The traditional festival Cau Ngu is unique and imbrued with the cultural identity of coastal community. The fishermen here consider whale, a giant yet nice creature, as the companion of seafarers in their voyages, on the vast ocean full of danger. To these people's mind, whale is not just a normal kind of mammal, but Sir Nam Hai-they are sanctified.
The festival Cau Ngu often take place on June 20th according to the lunar calendar with many formal rituals such as Nghinh Than ( God welcoming ), chèo Bả Trạo (A kind of Vietnamese traditional comedy), hát Bội ( Vietnamese traditional folk singing), racing on Ca Ty river…

Today, the festival Cau Ngu is selected one of the traditional festivals held every two year in order to develop tourism. And especially, Van Thuy Tu temple with the biggest skeleton of whale attracts more than 30.000 tourist arrivals each year. Being the intangible heritage, the festival Cu Ngu at Van Thuy Tu temple will be more preserved and creating the interesting feature for tourists.
